ii. What is (are) the mode(s)? iii. Does it make sense to talk about the average for this data? Why or why not? iv. Using your frequency table draw a pie chart to display the distribution of home states by filling in the following table
i just have to finish filling out the frequency tables. and draw a pie chart to display distribution of home state.
Mode is the data item that appears most frequently. In your case New Jersey and Ohio, dual modal datum.
i am completely failing this class and i have asked the prof for help and she says "look in the Ebook." i have one test to take... and hopefully i can get my grade up on this
I am not very familiar with statistics, had it a long time ago. My daughter just finished hers, but is out of town.
hmm lol my daughters have never seen this type of math...
My daughter is 52 and is going for her Masters in Nursing at University of Tn
sweet...
howdy :)
I am thinking that rather than New Jersey is the mode it is the number of New Jersey which is 3
hi amistre
Hi
Your thoughts amisttre
your iv part can be redone; the first part is asking for how many times a state occurs, which is the top part of the fractions; the percentage itself is the fraction
let me revise it for you ...
Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.
the mode itself is 'bi modal' being a tie between ohio and new jersey
i got that answer.. :) i just need help filing out the rest.. lol
Have you done the pie chart yet?
Excellent,
since the data is nominal (name based) an average might be an ackward measure. Its hard to determine which states is "average", it could be that the mode would determine an average, but its bi modal so that doesnt even apply
and that is the best I can do with those questions :)
Is the Mode 3 or is it New Jersy?
Mode is in reference to the data itself; how often it occurs. With nominal data it is just the name, with numerical data its a number
Thanks, I finally came to that conclusion also.
Don't fail us sandii2006, keep slugging away at it. Good luck.
i have not done the pie chart yet
Well the data is there including the central angle. Do you have a graphing program that makes a pie type graph. Will Excel do it?
no i dont have a graphing program.
neither do I, I use "Open Office" i am going to check and see if it will make a pie chart.
ok
Looks like all I can get is "bar charts" I guess you could use a compass and protractor
hmmm the pie chart is where its a circle right? and then its a percentage of each one right?
Yes, and amistre has already computed the central angle for each item, however you will need to distinguish the different states by a collor or crosshatch or just delineate the borders and write it in.
ok....
There will be eight "slices" and New Jersey and Ohio will be the largest slice and Nebraska the smallest, you get the drift.
this is my eyeballed rendition of a piechart
Beyoooutiful
lol .... interior design was never my strong point
how did u make it? i need to know so i can make it and post it.. lol what program
windows has a standard paint utility called "paint". its usually under the path: start, programs, accessories, paint
ok found that.. lol
i drew a circle and eyeballes the lines according to my extensive knowledge of ...well... using my eyes lol
lmao... nice.. well i suck at it!
Well I did not find paint, but I found a grapher on my Imac that may come in handy later. No pie chart, but polar, default, etc.
sandii2006, I would just take what is there, and label the slices, the brown and purple is New Jersey and Ohio
It will take some work, you will succeed with it,sorry your professor can't be more helpful. CUL
I think i got it.. :)
It didn't show up for me, but I don't have word
looks good :)
