My question is attached, thanks!

OpenStudy (radar):

Do you know what a tessellation is?

OpenStudy (radar):

I didn't either until I looked it up on wikipedia! lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not realy, what is it?

OpenStudy (radar):

It is a shape that can be used like tiles that can completely cover a plane (floor) leaving no gaps or wide cracks. Figure B is not the answer.

OpenStudy (radar):

Then again if it were offset by and pointed ends put against each other it might work. So maybe B is a possibility. What part of math are you studying?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is geometry.

OpenStudy (radar):

I am not too good at spatial recognition, I would have to cut out several of each shape and try and cover an area leaving no gaps. Hopefully you can try to imagine how the shapes could mesh and cover a plane.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You mean, how the shapes can attach to each other?

OpenStudy (radar):

yes tessellation is sometimes referred to as "tiling"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can't see any of them meshing together...

OpenStudy (radar):

I just tried tiling the shape be placing then side by side and then putting another row turned so that the points face each other and then offset so the points mesh, It almost looks like it could work that way.

OpenStudy (radar):

I was using shape B _________________ / /_________________ \ | _____________ \ | / | /__________________ |

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmm would that work?

OpenStudy (radar):

The problem with that at the edges there is going be a gap which is 1/2 a tile wide.

OpenStudy (radar):

Hopefully someone who has experience with this sort of problem will help you. amistre seems to have a wide range of expertise which may include this kind of stuff. I am sorry but it is confusing to me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem, thanks for trying! I appreciate it.

OpenStudy (radar):

Good luck with it.
