5+9÷3(3)-8
14
5+9/9-8 5+1-8 -2
6.
And I really wish this meme would go away.
is it \[\frac {(5+9)}{3(3)-8}\]
\[5 + 9\div 3(3) - 8 = 5 +\frac{ 9}{3}(3) - 8 = 5 + 9 - 8 = 6\]
lol
Remember that division and multiplication have the same precedence and are interpreted left to right.
first go parentheses, then exponent, then multiplication, division in the end plus or minus
5+9÷3(3)-8 multiplication/division left to right first: 9/3 = 3 3*3 = 9 then add/subtract left to right 5+9-8 14-8 = 6
The division sign only applies to the 9/9. there would have to be parenthesis to include the 8. the answer is -2. 5 + 9/9 -8 = -2
it is like totoally 6
... Sorry tad. the division applies to the 9/3 then you multiply that times 3 you get 9. Take away 8 from 9 you get 1. Add 1 to 5 you get 6.
6 is right answer
okay, I concede.
Order of Operations: 1Perfrom operations inside grouping symbols 2Evaluate terms with exponents 3Perform multiplication and division as it occurs left to right 4Perform addition and subtraction as it occurs left to right
The idea that you interpret 'parentheses' first means you just evaluate the inside first. The stuff outside (including the multiplication of the parenthetical insides) happens along with other multiplication.
