4X^3+9X^2+2=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did you make a mistake on this question or the last? Should the last term be 2x in your question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it should be

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Going by your last question, you just factor.\[4x^3+9x^2+2x=x(4x^2+9x+2)=x(4x+1)(x+2)=0\]so\[x=0, x=-\frac{1}{4}, x=-2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what happened to the 9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.x + 2.4x = 9x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

say whaaaa

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where did the 2.4 come from??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4x in (4x+1) and 2 in (x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can factor the quadratic by grouping.\[4x^2+9x+2=4x^2+8x+x+2=4x(x+2)+1(x+2)=(4x+1)(x+2)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks that clears up a lot of confusion! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

np :)
