Prove that f(x)=-3x+1 and g(x)=-1/3(x-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are you supposed to prove?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That they are inverse functions of each other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They're meant to be inverse functions right? Normally, you use \(f(x)\) and \(f^{-1}(x)\) for a function and its inverse. To test that they're inverses, apply one and then the other and you should get the original number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If I go g(f(x)) (ie apply g to f) I get -1/3 (-(3x+1)-1) (ie sub f(x) for x) which is x so g undoes f.
