what is a radical function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A function with this thingy in it\[\sqrt{x}\]or a fractional exponent thingy\[x ^{1/2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can kindly give me what it means please?

radical comes from the latin word meaning 'root' So square root functions, cubed root functions, etc. are all radical. The square root function is the opposite of squaring. So for example, since 2^2= 4, the square root of 4 (√4) equals 2. And for another example, 2^3= 2*2*2= 8, so ∛8= 2
