hey guys how do you determine initial height
Are you talking about for a quadratic model...like the path of a ball?
you measure how far from the ground you are when you start
if you know how long it took you to fall, you can work backwards, but in some cases thats just irreleveant :)
and depending on the height from which you fell, it might be tough for you to do anything.
yes, it's a football
and it's a quadratic model, yes
the initial height of a football tends to be either 0 or up to 3 ft on average
right but there's a way to find out without guessing i would assume
youd have to have alot more information than ... look! its a bird, its a plane, its... a football :)
this is all they give you. i dunno what i'm doin here
3 points of reference determine a parabola a constant velocity can be worked backwards but without inital conditions to calibrate for, there aint much you can hope for
for the record it's supposed to be 0.31
if all they give you for your problem is what youve given us; there is no good way to determine it .. they dont give you an equation to play with?
H=-0.7(d-8.7)^2+7.6
ok .... i assume H is a height function; but what is d?
d is modified so that the its in the first quadrant of a graph
it might be distance if the other numbers represent distance and height
or it could be t, for time. i don't know.
when the distance = 0 then you have your initial staring height right?
i have terrible handwriting.
yeah but there's distnace away from the kicker and maximum height
i got like -45 when i did it wth 0
this is what they graph looks like yep; -45 sounds about right ... which means there is something missing from the info http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=-0.7%28d-8.7%29^2%2B7.6
alright well it's not 0.31 so i'm still confused but w/e if there's nothing more that can be determined then i guess that's that
a vulcan mind meld would help; but i dont think thats an option :)
right but how is 0.31 even remotelly related to -45 is there someting else i have to do or did i screw up somewhere
with just the information you have given us, there is nothing that we can do.
alright thanks
