AE is tangent of circle b. BC=5 and AE=24. What is the measure of EC?

You have not given enough info to solve the problem. Please give more info about AE and BC. Is there a diagram? Please describe it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. Line AE or tangent AE touches circle b but only A touches the circle. A goes through circle B and then connects to C. Which then creates another line/tangent ABC. Then from C to D and E creating CDE. This also creates another line. So there are three lines which touch the circle B. Hope this helps

Still not enough info. Your description is confusing. Is B the center of the circle, and is line ABC a diameter of the circle? If so, ABC is not tangent to the circle. Assuming this is the case, then triangle ACE is a right triangle, with angle A being the right angle (because the tangent is by definition perpendicular to the diameter). Using this information, you should be able to use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve for EC. AE^2 + AC^2 = EC^2. That's assuming I guessed correctly from your description.

Yeah, it's a 5-12-13 triangle, doubled.
