Factor completely: 2x2 - 2x - 12

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Question 1) Are there any constants you can factor out of every term?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ye 2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2(x-3)(x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you explain this answer please its been awhile since ive factored anything

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first you factor out 2*(x^2-x-6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then (x^2-x-6)=(x-3)(x+2) cause 3 and -2 are the roots of this equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and together it makes 2(x-3)(x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer that came up on the review is (2x+4)(x-3) how did they get this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well 2(x-3)(x+2) => (x-3)*2*(x+2) => (x-3) (2x+4) => (2x+4)(x-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2*(x+2) => (2x+4) :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow i dont see how i didnt see to just multiply them lol thanks
