help someone pls: Is this equation correct: (x y)3 = x y3 ? Explain why. If it is correct, how can you prove this? If it is incorrect, what should be done to make it right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(xy)^{3}=x ^{3}y ^{3}\] http://www.icoachmath.com/math_dictionary/power_properties.html do you see what is missing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

missing in your original statement...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

inik this is just a question that i need to answer and if not correct i had to explain how to correct it with an example thanks for your info

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are missing x in 3d power on right side you have original statement: \[(xy)^{3}=xy ^{3}\] but it should be : \[(xy)^{3}=x ^{3}y ^{3}\] so to make it right you need to correct the power of x (from 1 to 3) in your original statement. Cool?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks in other words both sides has to be equal in order for the equatin to be correct right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right. it's like: 5=5 (not 5=6) x=x y=y (not y=3y)
