What is the derivative of 4x^3 + 5x + 10? I'm just starting calc.

OpenStudy (siddharth):

Derivative of an expression of the form of \[ax^n\] is \[nax^{n-1}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(4\times3)x^{3-1} + (5\times1)x ^{1-1}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the basic rule of derivative applies - where you take the exponent and multiply that to coefficient. Exponent you originally have will be subtracted by 1 which results in x^2 and x^0 term above.

thanks guys this is really helping

OpenStudy (siddharth):

also, d(x+y) = d(x) + d(y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

be sure to practice - that way you understand the application of the rule
