Which was the turning point on the Eastern Front? a. Dunkirk , b. Stalingrad , c. Pearl Harbor , d. Battle of the Bulge , e. Invasion of Normandy
b. stalingrad
That's correct. After the defeat at Stalingrad and the surrender of large portions of the German army, the Germans began a general retreat out of Russia which eventually led to the fall of Berlin
Also, it ended the warsaw pact between Russia and Germany, so, instead of being attacked by one front, Germany was now being attacked by both fronts
careful... the Warsaw Pact came into existence after WWII and had nothing to do with Nazi Germany
B
I believe he meant the Non-Aggression Pact signed in 1939 less than a month before Germany invaded Poland.
Once Russia gained intelligence stating that the Japanese had no plans of invading Russia, they sent all of their eastern troops to the west to fight Germany. With those much needed troops, Russia made a stand in Stalingrad. In terms of men and machines, both armies were evenly matched aside from the russians not having enough rifles for their troops. The irony of this battle was that Germany had already taken control of the surrounding areas and could have surrounded Stalingrad and bled it dry rather than a full on attack.
