Hello, so I am working on functions and I wanted to run my answer by someone. The question is: Find the domain of the rational function y=6x/(x-2) Im getting -2/6 = x. Any help is appreciated.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well actually that's not the full answer. the answer would look like {x|x is a real number and not equal to -2/6)

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

The domain (for this example) is all real numbers EXCEPT those which make the denominator equal zero. So in other words, all real numbers except x not equal 2. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The domain represents all the possible values of x for the function. The correct domain contains all real numbers except x=2, for if x=2, the denominator would be zero and it is impossible to divide by zero.

Oh mathteacher that makes a lot more sense than the explination my book was giving me. It wouldn't give me any examples with x on both the top and bottom of a fraction, so I had to guess.

thanks guys/gals!
