can anybody explain to me what limits are in Calc.?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

basically its the output of a function as the input gets really close or approaches a given parameter its most useful when the output of a function is undefined at a point, limits allow us to evaluate value of the function when we get close to that point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks, how do you know when there is an existing answer?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

there are cases where limit does not exist, typically you evaluate value of function by plugging in numbers very close to point from either side (from left and from right) if you get a different answer for the left than right, limit does not exist

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooo thanks

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

easy one is 1/x, what happens as x goes to infinity or gets really big

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is no existing answer right?

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

1/10 = .1 1/100 = .01 1/10000 = .0001 limit is 0 function value gets closer and closer to zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o ok thanks
