Im looking for a (fairly) simple computer language to learn this summer. any suggestions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are lots of computer languages available like - c, c++, c#, java, php, paython, ruby rail etc. These all languages are not hot in market today. Also there are some mobile s/w lang available. It is depend you that in which area you interested. If you want to learn simple lang than try php.

python would be the first one i would recommend to you for programming. If you happen to be interested in web design i would also recommend html just for a basic understanding of the web.

If you have no, and I mean NO programming experience I suggest you start with web code as it is very simple (HTML, CSS, and Javascript) and can all be learned easily on their own, and inter-woven. However, if you have a little experience and are interested in application coding I would suggest PHP or Python, as both are fairly easy to pick up.

thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, i didn't list any of my previous programming experiences; I have a fair knowledge of HTML, and I studied Java (Jcreator) in school. I looked into Ruby shortly. Thank you. Looks like a Python was a common suggestion

I would also add to the calls for Python. Very easy to pick up, but very capable and a good basis for going on to other languages later.

I'd recommend you learn machine code. It's very simple. Just gotta know two things: 1 and 0

The most basic language you can learn is Basic. It is quite old, but it will help you a great deal with the rest of the languages you might want to learn. Then there is Visual Basic, which is a language used with windows mostly. There is also Pascal and C++. Both are very good languages.

guys. plz attach some links also.. for tutorial.. ebooks.. thanks in advance....

You mentioned you might dabble with Ruby -- if so, go ahead and follow that path. That or Python are probably two of your best bets. I personally prefer the Ruby approach to things. You can give it a shot in your browser at http://tryruby.org/ .

Another plug for Python. http://wiki.python.org/moin/BeginnersGuide

To start with, I would suggest Python and Raptor. Raptor isn't really "awesome" but it can give you a great idea of how a program flows. Python would then be able to get you to start creating small applications before you move up the the more used ones.

ya python wil be best

First: HTML & CSS (they go together), Second: PHP, Third: Python
