I use Firefox 5 with Win 7. If I make a post in a thread, the post remains in the enter box and I have to reload the page in order to make another post. Is this a known bug?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think so. Could be that the computer server is busy and you need to wait just a little while for your post to go through. It could also be the speed of your internet whether its wireless, dial up, or ethernet cable.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The post goes through OK, but the text for that post remains in the entry box unless I reload, so I have to reload to make another post in the same thread. It's been that way since I joined a couple weeks back. Wireless 4MB symmetric.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not you then, it's the server. Facebook has had that same problem too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So here is another post, I could not make it until I reloaded the page to get rid of the text from the previous post. I can't just delete it either.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What kind of computer are you working from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A portable.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 MB is pretty slow. I would say your wireless connection is why you're having this problem. You're trying to post another comment, and the computer hasn't had time to process your previous one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Most laptops with good wifi run anywhere from 50 to 60 MB

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think so, haven't got this problem anywhere else... and my connection is symmetric so upload/download the same, I use Skype with video all the time, no problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Have you tried opening this site with a different Internet server?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Internet Explorer? Google Crome?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let's try it with IE..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That works fine so it's a javascript problem with Firefox.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are a lot of Firefox users in Europe (25% share and even higher here in Spain)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would think they would want to fix that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Firebug says reference to undefined property in modernizr....

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Ah, Firefox. Because frequent major releases that break functionality is exactly what developers want to be dealing with. Thanks for letting us know; we'll give Firefox 5 a once over in a day or two; sorry about that! As a side note, performance issues on the server *can* cause the post to take a while to show up; however, if it's consistently not showing up and you aren't getting any `the server could not be contacted' dialogs after a couple of minutes, then it's probably a JS issue, as in this case.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is a misunderstanding. The post is made OK but the text of the post remains in the entry box; it should auto clear, I can't delete it either. Meaning I can't then make another post in the same thread until I reload the page (then the text disappears).

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Interesting. Ok. We're pushing out some goodness in the next few hours that may fix that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Gracias! Fixed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ooops, no it's not...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Definitely not.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The site feel is a lot worse than before as well as the above continuing problem. Screen jitters, online totals jumping around, posts repeating then disappearing and I don't know what else.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, text problem still there, changed slightly. Now the live preview also remains on screen (after the post has gone through) and site claims I am typing a response even though I am not. So still have to reload. First impression, site is quicker, jitters and whatnot seem to have gone. But that happened before, wait till there is a few on and see if it still holds.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Chat seems very responsive but could be because low numbers online.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Yes. Ok, thanks. This happens consistently for you, right? (The live preview and replying staying stuck.) I'm pretty sure we checked it yesterday and didn't see it, so I'm hoping we can reproduce it and fix it today. That would make life easier :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All the time, anything I can do on my end?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me unload my extensions, clear cache and see what happens...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, test1..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Test 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah ah!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Homing in on culprit...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Still

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Flashblock or greasemonkey...

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Sweetness hehe. Between the two, I'd guess greasemonkey, since our site has no Flash, on principle :p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Greasemonkey

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

But! I eagerly await your conclusion. In particular, if it's greasemonkey in general rather than a specific script, I would like to address that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I will look at the scripts now.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Thanks so much! This is a huge help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Links Checker Script is the culprit.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Reenable all except...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Confirmed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Change execution order...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No difference..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

New version of script...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Older version of script...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Disabled again...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now a restart...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Disabled...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, the Links checker is trying to check links on the page and freezing up somewhere....

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Interesting. I'll have to look into what it does. Maybe contribute a fix back to it. What's its purpose?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It tests hosting sites to see if a link is live or not and puts a tick or cross by the link on the page. There are some alternatives, I might try one of them instead.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or maybe just disable it when I am on here (trouble is, forget to reenable it).

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Doesn't GreaseMonkey have white/blacklists where the script can be enabled or disabled for specific sites? I seem to recall that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I vaguely recall that from before, I can't see it on the current version.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I only have 4 scripts.
