What is metadata?
it is data about the data. if there is a photo, then it is what settings were used on the camera, the geolocation, as well as a date and timestamp.
It's the data about the data. It describes what the date contains. For example, Take a photo. The photo contains data about the pixels and its converted to an viewable image (information) by the Image viewer. It also contains >METADATA< ... which describes how the image was created. eg. Camera type, date, gps co ordinates, etc
is the data of the data, tells you what is it, who can see it, what format has, when was created, who, where(like what software and what system) what version and etc... it links your app with those references, resources and libraries in the system, depending of your development and execution environment to make it work when you code, debug and pack the app into a runing one, so whenever this enviroment, let's say windows 7 with .NET 4.0 , then will be able to run in any pc with that framework, that kind of environment.
Probably the metadata that you're the most familiar with about any file is it's name. The name isn't part of the file, it's what you call the file. In the case of a photo, it has no effect on what you see, that comes from the file. It's a piece of data about the file data in the file.
