Was World War One inevitable?
Well, it really depends on how you look at it. We, fought in World War One because of what the Germans were doing, so I guess unless America doesn't want to care about the other countries and people of the world, then for the USA it could have been avoided, but I honestly do not think, after what they did, that it was inevitable.
no
nothing is truly inevitable, but the intertwining alliance system in europe meant something was probably going to happen, especially with growing nationalism. Even Bismarck said "If there is ever another war in Europe, it will come out of some damned silly thing in the Balkans". The system meant something was probably going to give at one point, and all it took was the assassination of one archduke.
I agree nothing is inevitable but since some (if not many) leaders are ego-centric, war is very likely at any time
I would have to say yes... if there wasn't the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, there would have been another pretense. You need to remember the MAIN causes of the war: Militarism Alliances Industrialism Nationalism all of these were alive and well prior to the war, Europe was just a powder keg waiting to go off. It was not a question of IF a war was going to happen, but WHEN.
WW I happened because every country was willing to fight. Tensions were high between countries and something small erupted into the great war. America joined the war for several reasons, primarily the Zimmerman telegraph, where Germany was telling Mexico to attack the U.S.
It wasn't. The instructor gave you a poorly written question.
