can u explain to me how did this happen? arranging in ascending order: 1.) sqrt{2}, 2, 12/5, 5/2, 2.6,6 2.) -11/6, -7/8, -5/6, -2/3, -5/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm not really familiar in arranging this.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

looks like they are just aligning things up from little to big; you can use a calculator to put them all into the same format ... decimate them that is :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh. ok thank u

1.) we all know that any square root of something is lesser that the number itself so square root of 2 is the first one. Then followed by 2. Since 12/5 is 2.4 (which is greater than 2), we put it next to 2. 5/2 is 2.5 so it's after 2.4 . 2.6 comes next then 6 .

OpenStudy (amistre64):

-11/6 is almost -2 -7/8 is almost -1 if by hand; its just a matter of converting the fractions into like denominators and comparing the tops

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the greater the numerator is. the liitle it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in negative sign

OpenStudy (amistre64):

correct; a bigger hole is farther way ...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

since left on a number line gets smaller; the bigger the leftside; the smaller you get
