When writing my literature review for my thesis do I have to source individual sources within a textbook or can I just source the textbook?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Direct sources are always better than an indirect source. If you can cite the individual sources from the textbook, please do so.

If it's a collection, cite both, e.g. Joe Blow, "Peas and Carrots," p. 123, in John Q. Public, (ed.), "Stuff to Eat," Anypress, Town, state, year.

Individual sources will raise the worth of your work, allways. When it comes to a thesis, which is a work basically designd to show people that you are ready to finish your studies, the better you can make it look and the more specifications and details you can add, will always work.

If it's a work cited by another text, use the primary source as your citation (you can just copy their citation).

OpenStudy (trancenova):

Like the others said above always use the primary source however if you are citing something that someone else cited always check that the citation or what they are saying is actually correct to the source (because sometimes it isnt!)
