What do you think abut eugenics?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actions that remove one's reproductive choice are morally problematic and most often morally wrong.

Eugenics has always existed although people usually refer to the programmes for eugenics of the last century. I think it is wrong because I firmly believe that men will never be wise enough to judge nature. Not counting what Darwin himself said as soon as people started to interpretate his work in the sense of eugenics. He thought that man came over simple natural selection when he set up societies. therefore our sense of pity and our desire to help ill people is what distinguishes us from other living creatures. the desire to destroy them is against the human nature itself

I'm generally a fan of eugenics, because I like the idea that we can engineer future generations and use evolution as a tool to strengthen our species. However, I think that stealing someone's reproductive rights is wrong, especially if it's done to select for superficial traits like skin and hair color. I would be much more concerned with genetic diseases. I would also want to discourage procreation in families that either don't want children or are financially unfit to raise them. Luckily, I think these problems can be mitigated if we simply give people the tools they need to make responsible decisions about their own reproduction (i.e. birth control and abortion services), rather than forcing sterilization, which would be a horrific thing to do.
