What`s the mechanism of gills ventilation in fishes
fish swims with an open mouth---->water flows in through the mouth and moves through the Gills----> Gills filter out oxygen from the water --->and releases carbon di oxide to it........... this is how I think.
http://www.chelationtherapyonline.com/articles/p198.htm Fish have a 2-chambered heart in which a single-loop circulatory pattern takes blood from the heart to the gills and then to the body.
Everyone who posted above me is right, just missing a few details. 1st, like amazonrainforest said, the fish has a 2 chamber heart that loops back and forth from the heart the gills. 2nd the gills are made of several really thin layers of semipermiable membrane that allows the gas exchange of Carbon Dioxide and Oxygen. 3rd, as hakkunamatata put it, the fish will either swim through the water to carry out this gas exchange, or some species special sacs that they can open and close, called an operculum, to do this without having to swim around. Hope that was helpful.
If you think about it, it's the same way our lungs work... the blood going through the gills or lung tissue has high CO2 and low O2, and it reaches equilibrium as the water(fish) or air(humans) has low CO2 and high O2.
