In order to achieve maximum results from aerobic exercise, one should maintain one's heart rat at a certain level. A 40 year old woman with a resting heart rate of 80 beats per minute, should keep her heart rate between 140 and 160 beats per minute while exercising. She checks her pulse for 10 sec while exercising. What should the number of beats be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide 140 and 160 by 6 (because 10 seconds is 1/6th of a minute)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not going to do the computation for you but that should give the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then between 40 and 50?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, you need to do 140/6 for the lower limit and 160/6 for the upper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you count 40 beats in ten seconds, you should go to the hospital, because you're likely going into cardiac arrest ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, after I do 140/6 (70/3) and 160/3 (80/3) do I multiply by 10 because I am confused. this is why I am asking

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, there's no reason to multiply by 10.
