OpenStudy (moongazer):

What is reference frame?

OpenStudy (moongazer):

define

OpenStudy (moongazer):

definition please I will know give the medal ^_^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Frame in which observer is.

OpenStudy (moongazer):

according to my book it is a physical entity such as the earth's surface, to which the position and motion of an object is relative. but i can't understand that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in universe nothing is still as u may know it is expanding so we need a point or u can say reference from which measurements can be done , in that way more precise calculations we can get

OpenStudy (moongazer):

should i stick with the book's definition?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no just make it ur own

OpenStudy (anonymous):

more simply sun is frame of reference for all 9 planets , but it is not still for sun the center of milky way galaxy is the frame of reference but for milky way galaxy some other point or thing is frame of reference and so on...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is arguable. for me observing from earth ..earth is frame of reference is the earth...its is observer dependent.. If I am in a ship traveling at speed of light, and looking out the window...as far as i am concern world is going past me at the speed of light.

To define the position of any moving object we need a reference point. This reference point itself could be attached to a moving object or to a stationary object. A reference frame is a particular perspective employed by the analyst to describe and/or observe a motion effectively. There are different types of reference frames. A fixed frame is a reference frame that is fixed. A moving frame is a reference frame that moves with the body. A moving reference frame can translate and/or rotate. When a reference frame is either fixed or moving with a constant velocity, it is an inertial frame. An accelerating reference frame is a non-inertial frame. A fixed reference frame fixed to the environment, not to the moving subject, and used commonly in describing the motions of different body parts is the global frame while all the reference frames fixed to the moving body parts are called the local frames.
