Mathematics 8 Online

Okay, so for my online algebra class, this is the instructions I received. (Attached in comments.) I don't understand the second question... Can anyone help me??? (MEDALS GIVEN TO EVERYONE WHO ANSWERS)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ugh .. that aint math, thats english/writing calss material :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I KNOW.... TRY TELLING MY TEACHER THAT.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the equations all appear to be the same. They are slope intercept forms to start with and then standard form underneath; youd graph them easily by finding 2 points that satisfy the equation. one way is to use the y intercepts and slope out another point to connect a line to

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I THINK I SORT OF UNDERSTAND IT, BUT DO YOU KNOW HOW I WOULD SOLVE THE Y=MX+B??? I NEED TO ALSO KNOW THAT.... THANKS, YOU'VE BEEN VERY HELPFUL TO ME TODAY!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what do you mean by "solve the y=mx+b" ? as stated, it just the generic form of the slope intercept formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm not sure how to word it but it need to solve this.... y= 1.3x+3 can you help?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the solution is in the form of either a table of coordinates; or the graph of the line on paper.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

something like this

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the only other way is to write a few solutions to the equation by inserting values for x and seeing what they make for a y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

should i use zero to do so??? (inserting values..)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i dont know what consistitutes a valid answer for the site you are working with; tables are good but then so is a proper graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it wants a graph... I'm just taking freshman algebra online before i start high school, if that helps at all...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

determine the y intercept; which is what the "b" stands for in y = mx + b and move from there down and over as your slope indicates. 1.3 i think you stated just means that for every x value increase, y rises by 1.3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, i accidently typed 1.3, i meant 1/3... sorry....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

:) different number same concept.. your change in x is the bottom part of 1/3, and the change in y is the top part. which means that as you increase x by 3; you increase y by 1. x ,y ---- 0,3 3,4 6,5 9,6 in that manner

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, I think i get it now... Thanks a bunch... :)
