Nick's restaurant bill totaled $64.20. Show how to estimate 15% of the tip. Show and explain each step.

divide by 10 then add half of it

Well, i can easily calculate 10% of the bill by moving the decimal to the left once, so 10% is $6.42. Then I can figure out that 5% of the bill is half of that, which is $3.21. Then i would just add those together to get $9.63 (because 10% + 5% = 15%)

well first we can look at the relative percentages. 10% + 5% =15% the 10% is easy, just move the decimal place one to the left, which leaves us with about $6.42 next we need the 5%, which is half of 10%. so, we take $6.42/2 which is 3.21 now just add them together. 6.42+3.21=9.63

well if you think 60 divided by 15 is 4, but the total s a little over 4, you kinda figure that the tip is a little over 4$ The real tip is 9.63
