what's the difference between a sequence and a series?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A sequence is an ordered set of "things". A series is a summation over a sequence.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, a sequence might be 1, 3, 5, 7 whereas a series would be: 1 + 3 + 5 + 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what nubsauce said. with the sophistication that if you have a series, you then have a sequence of 'partial sums'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for example if the original sequence was 1,3,5,7,9,... then the series would be 1+3+5+7+9+... and the "sequence of partial sums" would be 1 1+3 1+3+5 1+3+5+7 1+3+5+7+9 ...
