If 2 quantities have same dimension, do they have to represent the same physical quantity?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. Like Work and Energy have same dimensiional formula, but they are definitely different physical quantities.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also for the Work & Torque there is same position, Since W = F.d and also torque = F.(perpendicular distance). Hey...It isn't necessary that if two quantities have same dimensions they represent same physical quantity... Dimensions just say that you aren't wrong while deriving a formula and but thy don't tell if you are perfectly right...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dimension are values which represent measurement of a quantity , well it does not mean that that the two quantities measured are the of the same type.....like measuring the length of a field ,suppose :15m and length of a cardboard ,suppose= 1m. Therefore...not necessary they represent two quantities..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Ackbar: not sure why work and energy are not the same physical quantities... work is just a transfer of energy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk.
