You have to move 14 cubic yards of soil with 2 four cubic feet wheelbarrows. How many trips will it take? 43,560 sq. ft. = 1 acre

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14*27/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Assuming you can roll both wheelbarrows at once? That's a good trick.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^ lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol, yes...assuming that!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha okay, well let's start out by getting common units. 4 cubic feet is how many cubic yards?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i was thinking exactly the same as smoothman haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why not the other way around 1 yd^3 = 27 ft^3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is simpler.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what idiot measures his soil in yards and his wheelbarrow in feet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's just a math question, relax brother.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first answer is total number of trips if you can move both at one time divide by 2 again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you can move 8 cubic feet at a time, right? And you need to move 27 * 14 cubic feet total.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol why does it tell us that 43,560 sq. ft. = 1 acre?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just to make the problem that more inane, I suppose.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well thats 27*14/8 trips...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

these are the choices: 75 / 85 / 95 / 105

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so we cant roll em both at the same time, that 8 is now 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

giving us 95 trips where the last one has a half full wheelbarrow

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, it must be.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah the first gives you 94.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answer choices at beginning help greatly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sweet, now can you explain how you got to this answer for me?? I would really appreciate it "the duke"!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can any of the rest of us explain too? XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Follow that, Lindsay? Each cubic yard is 27 cubic feet because 3 ft in a yard and 3^3=27. Then multiply by 14 to see that we need to move 378 cubic feet. We can move them 4 cubic feet at a time, so divide 378 by 4 to get 94.5. Obviousy we can't take half a trip, so we take 95.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THat'll do it! Have a good one y'all!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

14 cubic yards is the total amount you can move 4 cubic feet at a time cubic yards and cubic feet are not equivalents so you must convert to a common unit 1 cubic yard is 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet which gives yoiu 27 cubic feet so 14*27 gives you cubic feet divide total cubic feet by number that can be moved at one time which is 4 cubic feet thus the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You too.
