simplify : ( 7x^2 + 3y^2 + y - 4) - ( 2x^2 -5x -6y^2 -3y -1)

Ok. We have two separate groups, which we need to combine so we can reduce. You do this buy multiplying the negative all the way through the second group and then combining like terms. (7x^2 + 3y^2 +y -4) -2x^2 +5x +6y^2 +3y +1 Now we can remove the first set of paranthesis and combine like terms 7x^2 -2x^2 -3y^2 +6y^2 +y +3y -4 +1 5x^2 +3y^2 + 4y -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

( 7x^2 + 3y^2 + y - 4) - ( 2x^2 -5x -6y^2 -3y -1) 7x^2 - 2x^2 + 3y^2 + 6y^2 + 5x + y + 3y - 4 + 1 5x^2 + 9y^2 + 5x + 4y -3
