what the difference between distance and displacement??? I DONT KNOW WHAT DISPLACEMENT IS AND I NEED IT FOR FORMULAS :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Distance is a scalar quantity that refers to "how much ground an object has covered" during its motion. Displacement is a vector quantity that refers to "how far out of place an object is"; it is the object's overall change in position. http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/1dkin/u1l1c.cfm

As mentioned by inik above, Distance is a scalar quantity, but displacement is a vector quantity. A scalar is magnitude only, but a vector has magnitude and direction. So for example, I could say that I drove 10 miles today, and that would be the distance. I could also say that I drove 10 miles due south today, and that would be a displacement, since it has magnitude, and a stated direction.
