The sentence makes sense, if you can follow it. It is not, however, easy to follow.

Try rearranging your subjects or establishing them more clearly. Remember it doesn't always have to be one sentence. A thought process can have more than one idea. So maybe this sentence should actually be two or more sentences to clearly show the thought direction.

Try this:
"It is a remarkable piece of prose. Humanities related metaphors are often used to explain difficult mathematical ideas (a la Blueman), while this is less common the other way around."

And then maybe next explain that math is not used in humanities as often BY GIVING EXAMPLES of multiple math ideas explained philosophically, juxtaposed to EXAMPLES where humanities are defined by something that is not math.
