How do I find the x-intercepts of f(x)=x^2-16/x^-9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't know how to work it out but have u tried purplemath.com for help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have looked at purplemath and I am still confused..

OpenStudy (amistre64):

when y = 0 .... so when this = 0 you have x intercepts

OpenStudy (amistre64):

factor your difference of squares up top and the zeros will be your answers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i was too... sometimes it helps sometimes they don't explain it enough...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the difference of squares is -4,4,-3,3. I tried this and it still says I am wrong..

OpenStudy (amistre64):

just the top part; the bottom is inconsequential ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, Purplemath was vague!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

(-4,0) and (4,0) are correct

OpenStudy (amistre64):

fractions equal zero when the top is zero

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh that makes sense. Thank you!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

youre welcome :)
