solve -1/2x≥-3/4 what is the solution set? {xIx }

OpenStudy (anonymous):

{x | x >= 3/2}

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

same.

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

3/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so negative >-3/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. Just 3/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you divide a negative number by another negative number, you'll get a positive number. XD

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

here u go.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The tricky part of this problem is that when you multiply or divide both sides of an inequality by a negative number, the inequality switches.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To see this, take a look at the fairly obvious inequality -1 < 1. That is true. Now let's multiply both sides by -1. If we don't flip the inequality, we get 1 < -1, which is obviously false.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh right! I clearly forgot about that. So, the answer must be {x|x <= 3/2}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good job smoothmath.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So yeah, we begin with -1/2 x >= -3/4 Multiply both sides by -2 and remember to flip the inequality to get x <= 3/2

Thanks, Joseph.
