Please help me with this.. The body mass index,I, can be used to determine an individual's risk for heart disease. An index of less than 25 indicates a low risk. The body mass index is given by the formula , a model, I=700w/h2 (this is a small 2 above the h). Where W=weight, in pounds, and H=height, in inches. Jerome is 68 inches tall. What weights will keep his body mass index between 24 and 32

wasn't this question just asked and answered?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

did you not understand the solution I provided? if so, ask what your doubt is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, I didnt get a reply on this yet..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, all you need to do is substitute 24 in place of I and 68 in place of h and find w from the formula. then you need to substitute 32 in place of I and find w again. those two values of w will give you the weights that will keep jeromes BMI between 24 and 32

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24=175w/1156?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought it was 700, not 175

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am confused with this..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is 24 = 700w/1156 find w

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9248/175?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or 6936/175 for w?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6936/175

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do I do from here to find the weights? or is it 175- 189?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, you did it all wrong. substitute h = 68 and I = 24, giving you 24 = 700 w/68^2 24 = 700w/4624. find w from that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24=175w/1156 that is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you get w = 158.53 pounds. that is for I = 24 similarly find w for I = 32

OpenStudy (anonymous):

161

OpenStudy (anonymous):

161? for what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I=32

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is wrong. do it again. 32 = 175w/1156

OpenStudy (anonymous):

211.3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, that is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see where I went wrong now, thank you for taking the time to help explain and help me through this
