solve 5/8x+1/16x+5/16+x
I think that needs an equal sign somewhere in there
an expression cannot be solved
No, but it can be added. Providing if we knew if the denominator were correct. Lizzy is the x in the denominator or the numerator?
Is it (5/8)x or is it 5/(8x)??
5/8x no parenthesis
In other words, the x is under the bar in the denominator? It makes a big difference\[5\over 8x\] Right??
x is right next to both in the middle
right at the line
O.K and the last fraction is it:\[5\over 16+x\] or\[5\over 16\]
5 --- + x or 16 5 ----- 16+x
jabberwock aren't those fractions ambigious?
You find the common denominator then combine for the sum. Without clear and definite terms, I can not combine them. Hopefully someone will figure it out.
Yeah, they are. I'm guessing it's 5x/8. I'm thinking that the goal of the problem is probably to eliminate the denominator before proceeding.
That would make things a lot simpler if they were in the numerator.
@Lizzy Does it look like the attachment?
I am going to assume that is indeed the case. 10 1 16 5 27 5 --x + ---x + ---x + --- = ---x + --- 16 16 16 16 16 16
