I have a question about factoring
How can I help you?
What's up?
k here is an example problem 6x to the 2nd power plus3x minus 2x minus 1
That's just \[6x^2+x-1\] You can then factor it to (2x+1)(3x-1)
Make sense?
i don't understand how you went from 6x squared plus 3 minus 2x minus 1 to 6x squared plus x minus 1
Okay first collect like terms such as 3x - 2x = 1x then it would be 6x^2 + 1x - 1 Use the daimond method which means that you multiply 6 with -1 = -6 ( a times c) Then you see what can go into -6 and add into the middle term +1. The factors that can do that is 3 and -2 because when these terms multiply they equal -6 and when they are substracted they equal -+1.
The middle terms are the same so you can add/subtract them.
3x-2x=x
katrina where are you getting -6
So now you plug it into like this 6x^2 + 1x - 1which factors into 6x^2+3) (-2x -1) AS you can see +3 -2 = 1 which is the middle term. With simplifying those two expressions (taking teh GCF) you should get your factored form.
thank you for all the help but I have to go home. if you could send a explanation to my e-mail I would appreciate it Katrina. janny_boy82@yahoo.com
good night
I am getting negative 6 because in this expression: 6x^2 +1x - 1 I mulitply the a and c terms, which are 6 and -1 hence -6
