|5x+3| >2

i just dont know how to do the absolute value part?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If i recall, you treat Absolute value as both 5x+3 and -(5x+3)? I could be totally wrong, but that just somehow rings a bell.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks, that rings a bell :)

Then you just solve it as an equality, but since you're dealing with both + and - 5x+3, you're going to get 2 answers! Plus, don't forget to check if they're extraneous :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(5x+3) >2 or (5x+3) <-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x > (-1/5) , x<-1

for greater than you create two problems (same or opposite) same is the same problem without the absolute value lines opposite either change the inequality direction and use the opposite of the solution term or take the opposite of the absolute value part. same 5x+3>2 or opposite -(5x+3)>2 [or 5x+3<-2] 5x>-1 or 5x<-5 x>(-1/5) or x<-1
