new question :) word problem ' attachment below <3
So if the bigger van has 6 more seats than the smaller van, then we can say that the bigger van has the number of seats in the smaller van + 6. With the bigger van's seats represented by \(y\) and the smaller one's represented by \(x\): \(y = x + 6\)
what is x .. :) im still lost love teehee.
x here is the number of seats in the smaller van.
y is supposed to be the number of seats in the larger van.
Since the larger van has 6 more seats than the smaller van, we get the above.
but the question is asking for an anwser not an equation .. so do i replace the numbers with the equation ?
:) ?
Oh dear, sorry. I hadn't noticed that. We also know that the vans transport 57 people. We also know that the small van makes two trips, the big one makes one.
its ok :)
y=57+6 ? is that what u plug in or no ? lol sorry if thats a dum question ; im very bad at math :( . but your helping me alot <3 :)
So, if we add up two of x and one of y, we get 57: \[2x + y = 57\] Since we know from above that y = x + 6, we can substitute in: \[\begin{align}2x + (x + 6) &= 57\\ 3x + 6 &= 57\\ 3x &= 51\\ x &= 17 \end{align}\] x is the number of seats in the smaller van though, we want the number in the bigger van. So we plug that back into our first equation: \[\begin{align}y &= x + 6\\ y &= 17 + 6 = 23\end{align}\]
so 23 :)
:) 23 then right ?
Right!
THANKS <3 :D
its right :) your really smart :)
