satelitte??????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

polpK? CAN U HELP ME?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the sum of two consecutive odd integers is 52 . find the integers I have to be to scholl in 30 min.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

school

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, you know that two consecutive 'odd' integers will be 2 units apart from eachother.. 1,3,5,7,etc Each one is 2 more than the previous one. So lets let x be the first one. The next one must be x+2 then. So we have: \[x + (x+2) = 52\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And now we're back to the problem of solving an equation..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

unfortuantly,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But this one isn't too bad.. \[x + x + 2 = 52\] So what is x + x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right. So we have: \[2x + 2 = 52\]

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

POLPAK!!! Can you help me next? I desperately need lin algebra help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now subtract 2 from both sides of the equation. 2x + 2 = 52 - 2 -2 -----------

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

Polpak ill finish off here.. I know this stuff.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can try yes bahrom.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did you post your question already?

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

Okay roseanne: 2x + 2 - 2 = 52-2 2x + 0 = 50 2x = 50 divide both sides by 2: 2x/2 = 50 / 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

I did polpak it's Linear ALGEBRA!!

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

x = 50 / 2 = 25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 2x = 50 What times 2 is 50? Must be 25. So if x is 25, and that's the first odd integer, what is the next one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=25 because you divided then by 2

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know whats the other one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so thers two #'s polpak?

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

Well first number is 25, the next one is 25+2 = 27

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

Since consecutive odd integers are: x, x+2, (x+2)+2, [(x+2)+2]+2, and so on..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isnt 27 sopossed to divive into 52?

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

No.. it says the sum of two odd consecutive integers.. Sum means PLUS: 25 + 27 = 52 See 25 and 27 are consecutive odd integers and their sum is 52

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so whats my answer x= 27 and x= 25?

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

yes that is your answer.

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

the two numbers are 25 and 27

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much~!!!!!!

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

np polpak did most of the work anyway..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know he or she is very good!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how are you getting along with this algebra? more equation solving

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u help me?>>??? satellite?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure ask away

OpenStudy (anonymous):

She needs help solving equations. Unfortunately she hasn't spent enough time practicing and understanding how it's done.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The sum of two consecutive integers is 85 find the integers im getting more and more knowledge everyone is helping me so much!!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Everything else she does fine, but with solving equations she gets flummoxed and doesn't know where to go or what to do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i remember from yesterday. we go slow

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first thing we can do before solving an equation is guess. it is clear what "consecutive integers" means yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like say 40 and 41

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but of course 40 and 41 are not your answers, because 40+41 = 81 and you want 85

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so maybe we can just make another guess before we do the algebra. nothing wrong with knowing the answer before you start.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@rosanne you want to make another guess of two consecutive integers that add to 85?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I hAVE school at 1130 but i have acouple more probs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have to hurry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

42?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok 42 and 43 are consecutive yes? and they add to 42+43=85 yes? so you win. done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you want algebra you can write \[n+n+1=85\] \[2n+1=85\] \[2n+1-1=85-1\] \[2m=84\] \[\frac{2n}{2}=\frac{84}{2}\] \[n=42\] but you got it by thinking, which is better

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sometimes it is harder to guess than to do the algebra but sometimes it is easier to guess and check

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one more or do you have to run to school?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

? @scilaaax last one i think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes the perimeter of a traingle is 54 m the lengths of the sides are represented b y three consecutive even integers find the lengths of the three sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ur right <3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

consecutive EVEN integers, like 8, 10 and 12 yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

algebra or guess?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

huh?? you know more im not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

question is do you want to solve \[n+n+2+n+4=54\] or do you just want to pick an even number and see if it works?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i could pick 10 and then the even numbers would be 10 + 12 + 14 = 36 but that is not good because i want 54 not 36. so then i would pick a number higher than 10. or you could solve the equation i wrote.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

someone help ! sorry to intrude . :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@tabbey just post and you will get an answer in under a minute i am sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@rosanne still here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes we can pick an even number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok go ahead and pick on bigger than 10
