How is solving radical equations similar to solving linear equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Treat the radical as if they were variables, assuming same index and radicand. 2x + 3x = 5x 3sqrt5 + 4sqrt5 = 7sqrt5

ok thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Interesting question, where did u get it from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

algebra 2 online

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would have been inclined to say they are not the same or even similar until you get rid of the radicals with some methods, at least most of the time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya dat thing kinda confuse me but i try my best

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's confusing? Getting rid of the radicals?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Very often, for simple radicals, you can just square everything and that will do the trick.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no da ? itself is confusing but i know how to solve the equations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah, I see. Well, practice will take care of that eventually.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya hopefully
