OpenStudy (anonymous):

explain importance os osmosis in the production of urine in the kidney nephron thanks :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you still there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okew doke imma look it up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i know from biology last year that the urinary system has a filtration system in the loop of henle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where salutary substances leave the loop and reenter the body

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so do you do a2??? well, i tried the internet and i couldnt find anything :S

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whats a2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, this stuff is in as level and if you said last year i assumed you were in a2 it after year 11 then you go into 6form and as+a2=alevels :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha i dont think I am from around were you are from. i took AP biology

OpenStudy (anonymous):

AP?? i think thats the same thing cause i looked up some answers for it and i saw AP too :p does it stand for anything?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

advanced placement, where are you from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

UK what about you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your kidneys are so important they even have an effect on your blood pressure. The kidneys control plasma volume by controlling how much water a person excretes. The plasma volume has a direct effect on the total blood volume, which has a direct effect on your blood pressure. Salt(NaCl)will cause osmosis to happen; the diffusion of water into the blood Im from the US

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ap classes are college cources taken in highschool to is eligible for college credit

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i found you an answer it has to do with the loop of henle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so do you go to uni after or not? cause here if we go to college thats it + here we dont do sciences or maths in colleges

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by the way thanks for the answer :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah im going to college this year and majoring in biochem np! i didnt give you areal answer so h/o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so let me make this a lesson tell me what osmosis is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

movement of water usually going in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. so do you know what a nephron is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a functional unit in the kidneys

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right. ok so osmosis in the nephron is what I am going to talk about because that is its primary purpose. The nephron is our filtration system- we want to keep the good things in our blood and body systems and the bad things we want to be properly thrown out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, question is this going to ivolve water potentials :S

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

don't worry, I hate those too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright so think of a raft. you are going down the decending tube of the loop of henle, its like a concentration camp for salt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the main purpose is to collect salt and get it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your going down the decending tube with some salt people. you see some other salt outside the tube and they are realived because they are impermeable of getting in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why are they impermeable to get in???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right now the decending tube does not want anymroe salt. it wants to relase as much water as it can

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok now the rest of the loop does not apply to your question but the rest is just the salt/bad things being shipped away (secretion)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so how does osmosis happen in that step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well it happened through a hormone that allows water channels to open and get the water to be reabsorbed into the body

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ADH which is released by the pituitary gland

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kidneys job is to create a water salt balance therefore without ADH osmosis would not be possible. Any questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you said shipped away meaning it gets rid of the salt by excretion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right. it gets secreted out of the kidneys into the urethra. But let me clarify that its not only salt, its mostly bad things your body doesnt want

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like phosphate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok and how does this link to osmosis :S

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the salt concentration gets higher when water is reabsorbed back into the body

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK THANK YOU!!!! how are you only on level4???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha, I just joined

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, i see :o
