how are dolphin brain sturctures and human brain structures analogous?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The main features in the cetacean brain which differ from land mammals are: - a thin neocortex (about 1.5 mm, compared to 2.9 mm in humans) - rather uniform structure of the cortex - low degree of differentiation between cortical layers and cells - massive development of the (phylogenetically older) layers I and VI - poor development of layers II, III and IV (which are well developed in land mammals) - the neurons have relatively few primary dendrites and these are weakly branched.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right but what structures are analogous, like perform the same tasks. do they have an associations area like humans?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dunno im looking it up on the internet, but i kinda like ur question :) theyre interesting

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hehe thankss

OpenStudy (anonymous):

their brains are pretty similar in size but dolphins slightly larger Human brains appear to be composed of two mirror-symmetric dissimilar hemispheres. Dolphin brains appear to be composed of two similar sub-brains, each of which has two hemispheres, so Dolphins might be said to have 4-lobed brains that might be used to experience Many-Worlds.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WOW DOLPHINS ARE SMARTER THAN HUMANS!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow thats very interesting. 4 hemispheres

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does many worlds mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

water and land im guessing :S

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm. source?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow great source!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know, the internet is great XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try this aswell http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/bb/kinser/Size1.html

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i dont think that they are smarter than us

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no chauvinism intended

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think theyre smarter than the other animal but i agree i dont think thyere smarter than us :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in my opinion i feel as if that because the dolphins brain is larger doesnt mean its smarter, its jsut used to store different kinds of information

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah
