OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the heirchy of mathematics ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's the most important science in the world

OpenStudy (anonymous):

understandable. but what comes first? wondering how to work my way up to the highest form of math but don't know where to start. calc and trig are highest known but how do I get there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

take algebra, then trig,then calc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok what are the types of algebra to study and in what order ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you mean as an undergrad?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know what your experince with math is, but if you dont have any, take begginer algebra

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you have some experince, you can problably start at college algebra and then some trig

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hierarchy of math: counting -> addition/subtraction -> multiplication -> division -> fractions -> algebra -> trig -> calculus -> differential equations linear algebra falls between algebra and calculus somewhere. basic geometry needs everything up to trig.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

linear algebra is after calculus

OpenStudy (anonymous):

fairly comfortable with basic algebra knew that linear was after but not part of algebra

OpenStudy (anonymous):

True, in school we do it that way. But vectors and matrices have nothing to do with calculus.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then you can problably go to college algebra. From there you can take calculus, but i suggest taking some trig before

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any suggestions for coursework in algebra? mit only offers linear algebra

OpenStudy (anonymous):

get a textbook and just start going through..maybe watch some khan academy videos

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are just teaching yourself? not going to college?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not familiar with khan academy I"m prepping for school this fall.but yes I do relie on my own learning mostly.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

getting into schooll has always been problematic making money and time align , and the third integer getting left alone when need to study.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

don't whant to have to waste time learning what I can learn in a few months ahead of time so I can concentrate on core courses ty

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Definitely study algebra the hardest. It is the backbone of all 'real life' math. Calculus is a breeze if you know your algebra. So is trigonometry (well, if you know algebra AND the unit circle, it'll be a breeze). But for now, focus on mastering algebra, and life will be easy-peesy. At until cal 2. I'm about to start cal 2, and I get the feeling that this is where it gets hard.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uber, calc 2 is easy if you know your calc 1 and algebra

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so algebra or should I say basic algebra is the key to trig combined with geometry?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

circusboy, just learn algebra..after you learn algebra, come back and ask us what to do next..you're getting way ahead of yourself

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's why I'm good @ everything I do I plan ahead. ty
