how did humans learn to communicate if evolution does not pass down acquired traits

OpenStudy (anonymous):

communication skills are not genetic. If they were, we'd all speak the same language. As communication is learned behaviour it was probably passed down from parent to child in the beginning. Different parents passed down different patterns and words for potentially the same thing - hence the reason we have different languages.

but the ability to comprehend language is not acquired, so how did it form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is an acquired skill, that's why you spend the first few years of your life learnong not only to speak, but to understand the language you were taught. Make sense, or have I missed the point...
