Solve show all work. 35x^2 -38x +8

If you want just show me the Prime Factorizations

(5 x-4) (7 x-2)

The original problem was this but no one would answer it. : Megan factored the expression 35x^2 -38x+8 as (5x-2)(7x-4). But when Jacob applied the FOIL principle and multiplied out (5x-2)(7x-4), he got 35x^2-34x+8; thus, Megan's solution does not appear to check. Why is that? Please help Megan to understand this better. Explain your reasoning and correctly factor the original expression, if possible. So Megan switched the last numbers?

Yes

Is it suppose to also be plus? (5x+4)(7x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its supposed to be (7x-2)(5x-4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

35x^2-28x-10x+8 subtract -28x-10x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you then get 38x so it is (7x-2)(5x-4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-38x i mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(5 x-4) (7 x-2) (5 x 7 x) + 5 x (-2) + -4 (7 x) + -4 (-2) 35 x^2 - 10 x - 28 x + 8 35 x^2 - 38 x + 8
