how to understand quantum mechanics?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

...you need to elaborate. What about quantum mechanics would you like to understand. Fundamentally, you should always keep in mind that atoms are not particles, they are only tendencies. You will need to be familiar with recursive relations, wave functions of all kinds, linear algebra/determinants, as well as calculus...if you are comfortable with these subjects then you should be able to "do" basic QM.

Well, "how" to understand it is up to you really lol. Loads of study time and practice is probably the "how" part. And what psd said.

If you are looking for a popular level understanding, I recommend "In Search of Schrodingers Cat" by John Gribbin for a good introduction to the whole area, and follow up the bibliography in the back of the book.
