Word Problem: An amusement park charges admission plus a fee for each ride you go on. 2 admissions and 5 rides cost $22. 2 admissions and 6 rides cost $24. What is the charge for 1 admission and the charge for 1 ride?

This almost sounds like a series of linear equations...does that sound familiar to you?

sorry, but i have no clue, that's why i need help.

You have two equations and two variables...let's try to solve them together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We'll let a = cost of admission and r=cost of a ride. So we have\[2a+6r=24\]\[2a+5r=22\] If we subtract the top line (column by column) from the bottom line, we have\[r=2\] So the cost per ride is $2. Plug this back into either equation and that will get you the cost per admission. The question wants to know the cost for 1 admission and 1 ride. That will be \[a+r\]once you find each...
