OpenStudy (mary):

how can we identify an acid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Per my chemistry book, it's a molecule which when dissolved in water creates free H+ ions. I keep in mind that they are neutralized by bases with contain OH and when combined with the acid create H2O.

using a Litmus paper or using an acid base indicator. http://chemistry.about.com/od/acidsbases/a/Acid-Base-Indicators.htm
