If the ratio of the sides of a cube is 2:5 what is the ratio of the surface. Would it not be 6:6?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

square and get 4:25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you want to check, just imagine one square has side 2 and the other side 5. then compute the surface area of each, and take the ratio

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess where I was thrown off is with the term cube-6 sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait. How are the ratio of the sides of a cube 2:5? They should be exactly the same. :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

side is a length. length is a one dimensional thing. like feet or meters or miles area is a two dimensional thing, like square feet or square meters or square miles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry it is two seperate cubes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is why you square the ratio

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ratio of one cube to the other is 2:5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the question was then what would the surface ratio be ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes that is what i answered at step one up top

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not "ratio of one cube to another" but "ratio of sides is "

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, sorry
